Presidents Corner - Saturday 21 January, 2012

It was obviously disappointing to lose at Ransomes last Saturday in our bottom of the table clash. We were under pressure for much of the first half, in which we held out well defensively with keeper Adam Smith making some fine stops, and it took a spot kick to put the home side a goal ahead at the interval.

Fram were much more in the picture in the second period, and during a fine spell midway through I felt strongly we were heading for an equalizer, but from a quick break the hosts went two up. We continued to fight hard and pulled a goal back through Tom Huggins' excellent run, finishing with a shot from twenty five yards, however we were unable to obtain a point I thought we just about deserved and the eventual defeat certainly hasn't helped our cause. Fram had shown much more fight and determination in this display, and with a lot yet to play for the points are there to be had to lift ourselves away from the foot of the table.

Meanwhile the Reserves picked up, following the 2 - 0 reverse at Ipswich Exiles a fortnight ago, to register a fine 6 - 1 victory over BT Trimley last weekend to keep themselves comfortably placed in the Int. B Division. Well done to Ed and the team, please keep up the good work at Haughley this afternoon.

We now have to put our minds to Cup football, with a visit from Crane Sports in the Touchline Sports Cup 4th round tie. The league fixture here last November ended all square at 1 - 1, and today's match will be equally different, and we shall need to step up our game of late to make progress in the competition. I know that Mel and Karl are leaving no stone unturned in an effort to improve the situation both today and in the weeks ahead. Come what may, we offer a warm welcome to Crane Sports and their supporters to Badingham Road and look forward to a good encounter, which I trust we shall all enjoy, no matter the outcome.
