Presidents Corner - Saturday 19 November, 2011

There's good news and bad news this week, and we'll start on the good side in that the senior team gained their first league win in four matches at Old Newton (United) last Saturday.

After those previous disappointing results it was encouraging to see them at last showing the sort of form of which we know they are capable. Mel has be beset with players unavailable due to injuries and other reasons, and has been unable to perhaps put out his preferred team each week, but while some were missing last Saturday, the team that took the field at Old Newton played a much stronger and workmanlike game, making and taking their goals well and deserving to return home with a 4 - 2 victory. New signing, Paul Grieves, in his first game for us, showed up well on the left of midfield, and should prove a big plus as he settles in. We welcome him to Framlingham, hoping he has a long stay with us.

The bad news is the Reserves were forced to cancel their Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup tie at Corton, due to a shortage of players. Problems caused by call-ups to the Old Newton squad, along with injuries, were increased by a 1:30pm kick-off, which meant leaving Fram by midday latest and a number of players were unable to leave work early enough to make this time. Therefore there was no option but to call off, meaning a fine will be forthcoming from the SCFA. Further disappointment has come to the Reserves, and the Club, as the SIL has now punished with a deduction of six points from our total in Int. B for playing the U18's RYL goalkeeper in the victory at Wenhaston way back on 10 September - due to an oversight at the time, for the young keeper had not signed an SIL registration form. This deduction is in addition to the one point already taken from the Reserves by the SIL for our having postponed the match at Trimley Red Devils on 8th Oct. It never rains but it pours, and we shall as a Club need to sort out these difficulties from within and not allow them to occur again in the future.

This afternoon we welcome Crane Sports and their supporters to Badingham Road for the SIL fixture. We went down heavily at Cranes early Sept and will therefore be endeavouring to do much better today . . . but it will be a tough match for us as we look to continue on the improvement shown last week.

I trust you will all enjoy the game, whatever the result.
